Auto review: 2026 Mazda CX-90 gets better and better
Published in Business News
At Grasso’s Garage, normally as we enter the summer months our attention turns to top-down fun, but for the moment we're transfixed by Mazda's flagship CX-90 Premium Plus.
Looking good with its outstanding Artisan Red paint — a deep raspberry look competitors wish they could recreate — the redesigned seven-passenger SUV exudes excellence.
Powered by a 3.3-liter turbo-charged inline six-cylinder engine, the Mazda CX-90 produces 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the CX-90 has plenty of get up and go while not being a gas hog on the road. Its gas mileage on our 550-mile weeklong test averaged north of 25 miles per gallon — smooth and effortless.
Riding on 21-inch wheels, the exterior aesthetics stood out the most on our test. Its curved rear end radiates luxury even though it lists under $60K in the loaded Premium Plus model.
On the interior, white Nappa leather seats, perfect stitching and a premium fabric accent trim set the tone. Other features included heated front seats and steering wheel, a power panoramic roof, a 12.3-inch digital LCD display for the driver, and a 12.3-inch color center display for passengers. The easy-to-use infotainment system offered SiriusXM radio, navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a Bose 12-speaker audio system. Mazda offers a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and 36-month/36,000-mile new vehicle warranty.
Mazda is easily the premier mass-market manufacturer when it comes to their upscale models. It packs its models with an exceptional amount of standard features and doesn't nickel-and-dime the consumer with added upgrades and optional equipment. Buyers just select a color and drive it off the lot.
Keeping the six-cylinder engine alive is also a big win for the consumers who look to avoid the four-cylinder turbo engines made by most manufacturers today.
Nice win, Mazda. The CX-90 is easily a crowd favorite, beautifully designed for drivers who love to drive.
