NEW YORK — Gov. Kathy Hochul is continuing to bankroll New York City’s major childcare expansion, with $19 million in capital grants awarded on Tuesday to eight “shovel-ready” childcare projects.

It’s part of a total of $106 million for 37 childcare projects statewide, according to data shared with the Daily News ahead of its public release. The awards were made on a competitive basis out of 197 programs that applied to the state funding program.

The grants may be used for costs associated with creating new or expanding existing childcare capacity — including design, construction, renovation and equipment.

“These investments will help communities across the state create and improve childcare facilities, giving more families access to the care they need while supporting working parents and strengthening local economies,” Hochul said in a statement.

The majority of the New York City-based projects — five programs — are in Brooklyn, according to the governor’s office. Two are in Queens, and one is in the Bronx.

Capital projects that receive state funding must be completed by the end of 2029.

The grant awards are the latest state investment in the city’s childcare system.

Hochul, who frequently speaks of her own experience leaving a job due to a lack of childcare, has emerged as a key ally to Mayor Zohran Mamdani — who campaigned on a promise of universal childcare ages 6 weeks and older.

So far, the governor has given Mamdani nearly a half-billion dollars to help launch 2-K over two fiscal years and $100 million to expand 3-K in neighborhoods with waitlists this year. She also helped fund a popular childcare voucher program that low-income families can use at independent providers.

The NYC-based childcare grant awardees are:

•Almond Tree NY Inc. – $1,301,645 for new capacity

•Sharay Ditza Community Service, Inc. – $2,850,000 for new capacity

•Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula, Inc. – $1,150,055 for renovation

•Cozy Cove Corp – $1,957,595 for expansion

•Brooklyn Chinese-American Association – $1,000,000 for renovation

•Children of Promise, NYC – $1,446,837 for renovation

•Infinity Educational Special Programs Corp – $4,853,601 for renovation

•Boys and Girls Club of Metro Queens – $4,440,700 for renovation
