Madison Beer refuses to be "played like a pawn" by music executives.

The 26-year-old pop star has put strong boundaries in place in order to protect her mental health, and Madison insists she won't compromise her values.

The brunette beauty told Who What Wear: "People have been like, 'If you don't step up and do this, someone else will.' I'm like, 'Cool, then the floor is yours' because I'm not going to be played like a pawn."

Madison is ultimately determined to strike a healthy balance between her work and her personal life.

The singer shared: "I love touring, and I'm excited to tour because I've made it so I can do it and love it. My last tour was eight months long, which some people are like, 'That's normal.' I'm like, 'Not to me.'

"I would love to be someone that people could look to [say], 'Wow, she does a really good job of maintaining a healthy balance between both.'"

Madison actually considers having a "healthy work/life balance" to be "the true epitome of success".

She said: "I have a community that's not just going to up and abandon me.

"I know how precious time is, and I feel like I give so much of my life to my career. … I'm good with where I'm at. I'm proud of all my achievements thus far, and if I can maintain a healthy work/life balance, that, to me, is the true epitome of success."

Meanwhile, Madison previously insisted that she's comfortable with her relative lack of chart success.

The singer told the Observer newspaper: "It was definitely hard for years to detach from that ideology, but I feel so much better off now that that's not something I drive myself crazy over.

"I don't want to diss myself here, but I haven't had No 1s, I haven't had gigantic songs - actually, that's not true, I think I have had gigantic songs, but [not] to people's criteria. I'm like: if I can still sell out a tour and perform for crowds and enjoy it, then clearly I'm OK."
