Cillian Murphy says actors need to remember they are one small part of a much bigger team.

The 49-year-old actor stressed the importance of staying humble and respectful in showbiz to his 18-year-old son Aran, who is following in his dad's footsteps.

Cillian told E! News: "I did a play when I was very young, and I think I was rushing out to get to the pub, and I just dropped my costume on the ground.

"And this older actor said, 'Always, always hang up your costume.'

"And what he meant by that was not just hang up, but like you're just the fella prancing around on stage there.

"There's a whole machine here, like technicians and stage management and front of house, and you're just the act. You're just one cog in this whole wheel. I've never forgotten that."

However, in March 2024, The Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man star said Aran did not need his advice.

Cillian added to Today FM: "He's well able."

And the Oppenheimer cast member thinks Aran is going to shine in the entertainment industry.

He also told Today FM: "I'm very proud of him. He's a great actor."

Cillian also has a 20-year-old son called Malachy with his 53-year-old wife, visual artist Yvonne McGuinness.

Elsewhere, the 28 Days Later actor admitted to having very little interest in fame and is "really bad" at talking about himself in red carpet interviews.

In February, Cillian told The Times newspaper: "Being a personality is not what I am good at.

"But then existing in this world? Talking about yourself, going on f****** red carpets? It's not healthy if you start to believe this s***, and I'm really bad at it too.

"I'm an incredibly average person, really."

And the Batman Begins star has been contemplating a "really interesting" stage of his life ahead of his milestone 50th birthday on May 25.

Oscar winner Cillian explained: "Middle age is really interesting. You've had children and been successful and then hit this certain age and think, 'All right, this is the first time I've got less time left than I've had so far on this planet.'

"I'm turning 50 in a few months, so I do think, 'Well, what do I do now?'

"Hopefully I can just be a reasonable dad and husband, and then, when it comes, still take the work incredibly seriously."
