Pras Michel has dropped his ongoing lawsuit against former Fugees bandmate Lauryn Hill, just weeks before he is due to go to prison.

The 53-year-old rapper - who is set to spend 14 years behind bars after being found guilty in 2023 of a string of charges in a $100 million political conspiracy case - had taken legal action against Lauryn for claims including fraud, "gross mismanagement", and breach of contract over their shortened 2023 tour and the cancellation of 2024's Miseducation Anniversary concert series, but he has now voluntarily pulled the plug on the case.

According to Billboard, Pras dropped the lawsuit without prejudice, meaning he could refile at a later date.

In his lawsuit, obtained by Variety, Pras accused Lauryn of having "grossly mismanaged the set-up, marketing and budgeting of" the 2023 tour, which he says "was actually a veiled and devious attempt to make a big score for herself."

He also alleged a "breach of fiduciary duty and refusal to permit an audit" of the tour from Lauryn, and claimed she had controlled a budget that was "so bloated with unnecessary and, most likely fictitious, expenses, that it seemed designed to lose money" before "abruptly" cancelling the second half of the tour.

In addition, Pras claimed he missed out on another pay day when Lauryn failed to tell the rest of the group they had been offered $5 million to play Coachella, which he alleged she turned down as her "ego was bruised" because No Doubt would receive top billing.

In response to the "desperate and unfortunate" lawsuit, Lauryn's lawyer, Howard King, claimed it was "packed with lies and intentionally disparaging remarks."

He added: "It is particularly disappointing that the suit fails to reveal that Pras was grossly over advanced for the last tour to help him pay his mounting legal bills.

"His failure to show appreciation for the financial help Ms. Hill has afforded him in his time of need is disappointing. This action will be aggressively defended and defeated."

Meanwhile, Pras is currently appealing the verdict of his criminal case and has asked to delay the start of his sentence until the case is heard.

The Ready or Not hitmaker was convicted of 10 charges - including acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government - back in April 2023 after he accepted $100 million from disgraced Malaysian financier Jho Low to influence the administrations of US Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

A motion filed by his team in December and obtained by Rolling Stone explained the appeal "presents substantial questions" surrounding alleged "egregious" errors during his trial, including issues relating to "improper jury influence" and "sufficiency of evidence."

The lawyers claimed the trial judge had declared Pras to be "guilty on at least eight occasions by referring to Michel and others as co-conspirators and ruling in front of the jury that the co-conspirator exception to the rule against hearsay applied, further influencing the jury."

It also said the most "egregious example" that "further" influenced the jury was "permitting FBI Agent Robert Heuchling to provide improper overview testimony and to opine on at least 25 occasions that Michel was guilty".

The charges included claims Pras violating campaign finance laws during Obama's 2012 election campaign and illegally lobbed the Trump administration in 2017, but the musician argued he simply wanted to make money and got bad legal advice while reinventing himself in the world of politics.

Pras previously insisted he "never wanted to be a spy" but still found his conduct "a bit exciting".

He told Variety: "I don't know if subconsciously it was a bit exciting for me ... I like spy movies, but I never wanted to be a spy. I don't think that's sexy. But a part of it felt like that ...

"Technically, I'm a foreign agent."
