The former Prince Andrew is at the centre of an investigation that now involves UK prosecutors.

Officials from the Crown Prosecution Service are working to provide guidance to police examining 66-year-old Andrew's links to Jeffrey Epstein, who died aged 66 in his New York jail cell in 2019 from an apparent suicide.

The CPS confirmed on Wednesday (01.04.26) it is offering "early investigative advice" to both the Metropolitan Police Service and Thames Valley Police as inquiries continue into Andrew's conduct.

Andrew, who was arrested in February on his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, is being investigated over allegations he shared commercially sensitive information with Epstein while serving as the UK's special trade envoy between 2001 and 2011.

Police are also examining separate allegations a woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein to have a sexual encounter with Andrew.

The CPS is also advising police in a related investigation involving politician Peter Mandelson, 72, who was arrested on suspicion of the same offence.

A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service said: "We can confirm that we are now providing early investigative advice to the Metropolitan Police Service regarding the force's investigation into a 72-year-old man and will continue to liaise as requested."

The spokesperson added: "We can now also confirm that we are providing early investigative advice to Thames Valley Police in relation to a 66-year-old man."

They also said: "We remain ready to support any investigation if needed."

The CPS provides guidance to police during investigations, including advice on evidence gathering and whether a case meets the threshold for charge.

Prosecutors will consider whether there is a "realistic prospect of conviction" before proceeding.

Andrew was photographed in the back of a car following nearly 12 hours of police questioning after his arrest.

Officers later carried out searches at Wood Farm, his temporary residence, and at Royal Lodge, where devices were seized as part of the investigation.

The actions followed the release of extensive files linked to Epstein.

Andrew has denied wrongdoing.

He was released "under investigation" after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office after allegedly sharing sensitive information with his long-standing friend Epstein during his role as a trade envoy for Britain.
