Ye in Tampa: Your guide to parking, tickets, schedule, merch and more

TAMPA, Fla. — After a long month of social media debates and political backlash, Ye is finally coming to Tampa for concerts on Friday and Sunday.

The two shows at Raymond James Stadium are some of his only gigs in America for this year, following two sold-out nights at California’s SoFi Stadium in April, which generated $30 million.

We’ve thoroughly covered the scandals from the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, and how Tampa Bay has responded. Now here’s what to know about the shows.

This is Ye’s first Tampa concert since ... when, exactly?

Long enough that the last time he came here, he wasn’t known as Ye. West played what is now called Benchmark International Arena in 2016, performing on a floating stage above a mosh pit that was as stunning a setup as you’ll ever see in concert. He performed old favorites like “All of the Lights” and “Jesus Walks” alongside newer material, plus a vicious rant against Kid Cudi for good measure. We named it one of Tampa Bay’s best concerts of the year.

With all the backlash to Ye, could these concerts still get canceled?

Ye has praised Adolf Hitler, called himself a Nazi and sold merchandise with swastikas on it, losing fans and lucrative business deals. While the rapper recently apologized, the announcement of his Tampa concerts still stirred up controversy.

Local politicians, Jewish groups and Holocaust survivors all expressed concern about the shows, worried about the spread of antisemitism. The Florida Holocaust Museum is even offering free admission from Friday through Sunday.

But the concerts will probably go on as scheduled.

The contract between Ye’s promoter and the Tampa Sports Authority included a clause stating that the Authority cannot cancel or interfere with the events “based upon artist identity, prior or past public statements, public perception, political viewpoints, or the anticipated or actual content of the performance,” as long as Ye’s concert doesn’t run afoul of any laws or venue rules.

Now for the other question that’s been circulating around town all month: Should you go? If you’re feeling conflicted about whether or not to attend the concerts due to Ye’s past controversies, you aren’t alone.

Are Ye tickets still available in Tampa?

Yes — and prices are dropping.

According to EventSpy, which monitors offerings on Ticketmaster, StubHub and SeatGeek, resale tickets have dipped as low as $41 for Friday and $50 for Sunday. Nosebleeds are going for about $70 on Ticketmaster.

When should I get to the Ye concerts in Tampa? What is the schedule?

Parking lots and the ticket office both open at 2 p.m. on concert days. Gates to the venue open at 5:30 p.m.

Ye is expected to take the stage at 8 p.m. and perform until 11 p.m. No opener has been announced.

Where can I park or get dropped off?

Raymond James Stadium is located at 4201 N Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. For a parking map and directions to each lot, visit Raymond James Stadium’s website.

Download Waze for real-time traffic and road closure updates directly from the stadium.

To park in a stadium lot, purchase parking ahead of time via ParkWhiz. You can also opt to bring cash and hunt for a spot in the neighborhoods nearby.

Planning to take an Uber, Lyft, taxi or bus? The drop-off and pick up area is located at Steinbrenner Field. Prepare for the possibility of surge pricing and extended wait times.

What does the weather look like?

Raymond James Stadium is an outdoor venue, and the concerts will go on rain or shine.

Expect toasty temperatures, high humidity and a chance of afternoon showers.

Look out for the signs of overheating: dizziness, stomach cramps, a rapid pulse, a rash, headaches or nausea. If you or someone you know exhibits these symptoms, seek shade and medical attention.

Will Ye have merch trucks in Tampa?

Merchandise trailers open at 2 p.m. on Friday and Sunday. Stands will be located at the Ford Gate, Gate B and Tom McEwen Boulevard.

There will also be merchandise available inside. Plastic bags will only be distributed for orders that are placed within the stadium.

Wondering what the merch looks like? While Ye made headlines for a Super Bowl ad last year that led to swastika-emblazoned merchandise, the rapper has since apologized. At SoFi Stadium in April, he sold a range of T-shirts and hoodies decorated with masks, stars and minimal text. He also sold vinyl records of his latest album, “Bully.“
