Madonna's 'secret' Pride appearance 'scrapped over security fears'
Published in Entertainment News
Madonna reportedly pulled out of a planned surprise appearance at Pride in London after security concerns prompted her team to abandon the proposed visit.
Despite speculation the pop icon, 67, would join performers Beth Ditto and MNEK on the main stage in Trafalgar Square before an estimated audience of 1.8 million people on Saturday (04.07.26), Pride in London later confirmed on social media she would neither appear nor perform.
A source told The Sun: "Madge had been really excited to attend the event as she is such a huge advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. But a last-minute decision was made by her team not to take part due to the huge crowds, amid concerns she could send the well-organised event into frenzied chaos."
Instead, Pride in London proceeded without the singer.
Organisers posted on social media: "In response to the rumours, we can confirm Madonna will not appear perform at Pride in London."
More than 35,000 marchers representing hundreds of groups took part in the annual parade through central London on Saturday, travelling from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall carrying rainbow flags, while campaigners highlighted continuing concerns around LGBTQ+ rights, including long waiting times for gender-affirming healthcare and rising hate crime figures.
Rumours Madonna would appear came at the end of a week in which she had been celebrating the release of her new album, Confessions II, her long-awaited reunion with producer Stuart Price, who also collaborated on her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor.
The singer, whose career has produced hits including Like a Prayer, Vogue, Hung Up and Material Girl, had opened Pride Month with a surprise performance in New York's Times Square before travelling to London for a series of promotional events linked to the new record.
Madonna recently hosted an intimate launch event at Magazine London in Greenwich, where invited guests celebrated the arrival of Confessions II.
Footage from the evening showed her joining Stuart behind the decks as the pair played tracks from the new album while interacting with fans.
Her daughter Lourdes Leon also appeared alongside them during the event.
Guests were served Madonna-themed cocktails rather than Kylie Minogue's wine range, and attendees heard an exclusive airing of Danceteria from the new album.
Madonna also performed Physical Attraction from her 1983 debut album, marking the song's first public outing since its original release more than four decades ago.
During excerpts of her 1990 chart-topper Vogue, played by Stuart, Madonna recreated the track's signature choreography with fans gathered around the DJ booth.
Speculation over her appearance at Pride had intensified after reports last week suggested organisers hoped she would make a brief appearance following the release of Confessions II.
