Danielle Fishel has learned how to self-parent since becoming a mother.

The 45-year-old actress admits she wasn't fully prepared for every aspect of parenthood before she welcomed her first child into the world.

The Boy Meets World star - who has Adler, seven, and Keaton, four, with her husband Jensen Karp - explained on Cart Blanche: "The thing I don't think anyone could prepare you for when you're an involved parent with your kids is how often you have to parent yourself while parenting them.

"The things that will trigger me that I'm like, 'This isn't about what he just said. I'm clearly feeling something for some other reason and I want to respond in a way that would just be way over the top, but I have to talk myself through that. Like. I have to self-regulate before I can even handle them in that situation.

"That's something I would have never imagined -- how much self-parenting I would have to do on a daily basis."

Danielle also revealed another important lesson she's learned in recent years.

The actress said: "When faced with an opportunity where you can go one of two ways where you can either be upset or turn it into a game ... no matter what the situation is, no matter what the meltdown is, turn it into a game.

"'You can't find the other half of the pyjamas? All right, today's crazy pyjama night!' Just turn it into something fun and you will turn their mood around."

Danielle previously revealed that she's determined to remain "active" following her cancer scare.

The actress is now cancer-free after undergoing two surgeries and 20 rounds of radiation, and Danielle admits that the experience has transformed her outlook on life.

The TV star - who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 - told People: "I'm trying to think of self-care as not being a luxury or an indulgence. It's a bare minimum that I owe to myself to keep myself active enough that I can do the things that bring me joy, like dancing."
