Taika Waititi is grateful Rita Ora froze her eggs in her mid 20s.

The 35-year-old singer took steps to preserve her fertility when she was 24 and 27 and she's thankful she did so because she and her 50-year-old husband - who already has

Te Kainga o te Hinekahu, 14, and Matewa Kiritapu, 10, with ex-wife Chelsea Winstanley - are now thinking about having children.

Rita told The Times magazine: "He says, 'Good job for planning ahead, girl.' "

The Hot Right Now hitmaker initially feared it would be "impossible" to have a child with Taika because they are always so busy, but she has taken inspiration from former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who had her daughter Neve in 2018.

She said: "I have a lovely time with my stepdaughters and I'd love to add to our family but… when? I used to think with both of our careers it would be impossible, but I've become friendly with Jacinda Ardern and she is my inspiration.

"Jacinda took her baby everywhere. She even breastfed her at the United Nations, which to me is proof of what a woman who loves her job can achieve."

Rita was first introduced to the Jojo Rabbit filmmaker at a barbecue in 2018 but didn't start dating until 2021, and she admitted it was a "risk" to take their friendship further.

She said: "We were just good friends for three years after [we first met]. But we had so much to talk about because we have so much common ground: both our mothers have had breast cancer; both of us come from immigrant families with crazy stories who had to learn how to hustle...

"Kissing your best friend is a big moment. Because when you fall in love with your best friend, you are risking quite a lot. What if it doesn't work out? What if you lose an incredible friendship? You've seen When Harry Met Sally, right? Well, it was like that."

The I Will Never Let You Down hitmaker took a bigger risk in 2022, when she filled a hotel room with balloons, ordered a cake, and got down on one knee to propose when Taika entered the room.

She laughed: "Was I ready to hear, 'No'? Obviously, that's not the outcome I was looking for, but in life and in love, you sometimes have to take a risk for what you really want."

"My motto is: if you have a plan B, then you're not really focusing on plan A."

The pair married two months later, with Rita's sister Elena, Taika's children and his best friend in attendance, and she admitted it wasn't a day she had always expected to have.

She said: "It doesn't matter who you are, everyone at some point thinks, 'Will I ever find the right person for me?' I spent a long time thinking I'd never find someone to marry. My question was: who's going to keep up with my pace? Well, I found him."
