Emma Roberts wanted to look like an "antique ghost doll" at her wedding.

The American Horror Story actress tied the knot with Cody John in an outdoor ceremony in Idaho on Saturday (25.07.26) in a custom Monique Lhuillier dress and the off-white gown was produced using a tea-stained effect chiffon to get the vintage effect she was hoping for.

She told Vogue.com at her final fitting: "I didn't really know what I wanted.

"I just knew that I wanted it to feel very vintage-inspired. I'm obsessed with antique books and treasure hunting, and I love collecting old ephemera, so I really wanted that to shine through in the dress."

Explaining her choice not to go for a pure white, she added: "I kind of wanted to look like a ghost -- a little antique ghost doll."

And Emma's loved ones agreed she looked like a "doll" in the dress, which took nine months to make and a total of around 1,000 hours.

Her cousin Charlotte Long, who was at the fitting, said: "It feels very Emma. The first thing I thought was she looks like a doll--and she's obsessed with dolls. It's very fitting for her."

Bridesmaid Ally Gasparian added: She's all of our dolls. It was perfect."

After hearing their reactions, Emma exclaimed: "I said I wanted to like look like a ghost and they made it beautiful."

For the evening celebrations, the designer turned to her archive, with Emma donning a two-piece from her fall 2004 collection comprising a black lace corset top and a tea-length silk organza skirt.

Emma said: "I love the idea of wearing black for the after party. We love doing something that's a little unexpected. This looks like it could be totally vintage from 100 years ago, or from now. This is going to be so fun in Idaho at the after party."

The 35-year-old star - who has five-year-old son Rhodes with former partner Garrett Hedlund - had previously gone through the "weird" experience of looking at wedding dresses for a film role, so she was excited to work on her own bridal gown.

She said: "I've been married in a movie before, and I tried out wedding dresses for that, which feels so weird. So now, it's the real deal."
