Kelly Clarkson opened up to fans in Las Vegas about one of the most chaotic break‑ups of her life, revealing she once had to end a relationship twice because the other person simply refused to accept it.

Speaking during her Studio Sessions residency at Caesars Palace on Saturday (08.08.26), Kelly introduced her song I'd Be Lyin' by explaining the real‑life drama behind it. Not naming names, she said she had already broken up with someone when they suddenly acted as if it had never happened.

She said: "I swear to God, I've had to break up with someone twice. That's a real story. That's true."

The Behind These Hazel Eyes singer - who is currently single - told the crowd the second break‑up felt just as awful as the first.

She said: "And it was hard both times. You feel like a piece of s*** both times, P.S. And I looked at this person and they were like, 'What do you mean?' I was like, 'What do you mean? We were there. We were both there. What the f*** did you hear?'"

She said the person in question had completely rewritten the conversation in their head.

She said: "It was already hard enough on both of us. Why are we doing it again? Like, it's crazy."

Kelly went on to explain how people often twist words to fit what they want to believe.

She said: "That happens, you know? You say something and people filter that s*** and they hear what they want to hear. And it is crazy."

Without the awkward situation, the star might not have written I'd Be Lyin'.

She said: "So I ended up writing this song. I was like, this is about to - we need a song for this. Anyway, the verse is more or less like what they hear."

Later in the show, the American Idol alum introduced Piece by Piece and reflected on the "tough" lessons she learned after a series of unhealthy relationships growing up.

She said: "It's a reality for a lot of us. A lot of us… deserved better, and that's a tough thing to grow up with… it's a tough thing to find healthy relationships when you've never been shown one."

Kelly added that therapy helped her understand those patterns.

She said: "But those are all excuses. I learned that in therapy."

Kelly split from husband Brandon Blackstock - who died of cancer last year - in June 2020 after almost seven years of marriage

The couple had River, 12, and Remington, 10, together.
