FORT WORTH, Texas — Kevin Bacon’s new Texas-filmed horror movie has a release date.

Deadline reported on Wednesday, Aug. 19, that Bacon’s “Family Movie” will release in theaters on April 23, 2027. The film had its world premiere earlier this year at the South by Southwest Film and TV Festival in Austin.

“Family Movie” not only stars Bacon, but his entire family, including his wife Kyra Sedgwick and the duo’s children Travis and Sosie Bacon. Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon also co-directed the film, with Dan Beers handling the script.

“A filmmaking family finds themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on the set of their low-budget slasher, forcing them to cover up the murder to keep filming,” the film’s logline reads.

‘Family Movie’ sets 2027 release

“Family Movie” filmed in Round Top, Texas, outside of Austin, last summer.

Kevin Bacon posted a photo on his Instagram of him shopping at Thunderbird Hats in Round Top while prepping the film. Jackie Earle Haley, who is also in the film, posted about having a nice meal at local Italian restaurant Lulu’s during his stay.

It seems the Texas hospitality rubbed off on the film.

“The entire process of making ‘Family Movie’ has been a true labor of love and after seeing the audience reactions at multiple film festivals around the world, we knew this movie had to be experienced in the theater,” Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon said in a statement. “While we considered traditional distribution options, we decided to put our faith in our film, the audience, and the evolving landscape of independent film and go straight to the theaters with this fun crowd pleaser.”

In addition to the previously mentioned cast, “Family Movie” also stars Liza Koshy, John Carroll Lynch, Andrea Savage, Austin Amelio and Scoot McNairy.

The movie is being distributed by Variance Films and counts Vince Jolivette, Casey Durant, Greg Lauritano and Russell Wayne Groves as producers. Tanner Beard, who operates Silver Sail Entertainment in Fort Worth, is an executive producer on the film.
