Jelly Roll is finally letting fans know where he stands when it comes to politics. The Grammy-winner opened up about his views Thursday, on his final night guest-hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

He kicked off the episode with a passionate and funny monologue, addressing the backlash he faced over jokes he made about President Donald Trump earlier in the week.

“A lot of people seem to think these Jimmy Kimmel writers have secretly been pulling the strings and forcing this good old country boy to poke fun at our commander-in-chief,” he said

“But let’s be real about this, y’all: Do you think I would take orders from some sweaty little dork named Josh? No, I was just telling it like it is. And for some reason that seemed to freak a lot of people out,” Jelly Roll continued. “I guess now that I’ve lost all this weight, folks can finally see I have balls.”

He added: “It is funny that before this week everybody thought I was MAGA. And now they think I’m some sort of liberal snowflake.”

Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, then played a clip of a conservative political commentator bashing him over his Trump jokes while pointing out that the singer previously praised the UFC Freedom 250 event held at the White House back in June. He then went on to clarify exactly where he falls on the political spectrum, noting that enjoying a fight is not the same as a political endorsement.

“Sure, I lean left on some things, but like most folks I’m pretty down the middle,” he said. “I am a Christian. I am a country music singer. I’m a farmer. I’m a bowhunter. And most of things I eat I prefer to get with a stick and a string. That’s the truth.”

Jelly Roll also addressed a moment at the Grammys this year, where he declined to answer a question about politics.

“I fumbled my words,” he said.

“I do wish I had found the words to express my heart just a little bit sooner,” the singer continued. “But I was afraid that anything I was going to say was going to be immediately taken as a political statement. And, ironically, by trying so hard not to make a political statement, I became one.”

While the singer did not say what way he planned to vote in the upcoming midterm elections, he did promise to get out and actually vote. Due to his previous felony convictions, Jelly Roll did not have the right to vote until March of this year.

“Human dignity isn’t Republican nor Democrat,” he emphasized. “Compassion isn’t left-wing, and mercy isn’t right-wing. Pain and healing knows no partisanship. Hurting hearts are more important than poll numbers. And there are no boundaries or borders for broken families.”
