Perez Hilton's family taking recovery 'one step at a time' after mental health crisis

Perez Hilton's family are taking his recovery "one step at a time" following the serious mental health crisis that led to his hospitalisation earlier this year.
The 48-year-old celebrity gossip blogger was admitted to hospital in August after a mental health emergency. Since then, his loved ones have been keeping fans updated on his progress through posts on his official website.
In their latest update, published on November 3, family members said they were encouraged by the positive steps he has made over the last three months.
The statement revealed Perez has been able to spend time with relatives during approved visits and recently enjoyed a special family celebration for his mother's 73rd birthday alongside his three children.
His family wrote: "These moments together have meant so much to everyone."
They also admitted the experience has opened their eyes to the challenges involved in recovering from a serious mental health crisis.
The statement continued: "Like many people who have never been through something like this, we didn't fully understand just how much time, care, and support recovery from a serious mental health crisis can require.
"Through conversations with others who have been through similar situations, we've come to understand that getting through the initial crisis is only the beginning. There's no one-size-fits-all timeline, and we're learning the importance of taking things one step at a time."
Perez's family stressed that their main priority is ensuring he has the support and time he needs to continue his recovery journey.
They added that his children are doing well and have been focused on school, extracurricular activities and enjoying everyday life, including celebrating Halloween.
The update concluded: "As always, thank you to everyone who has continued to check in and send kind messages. We're incredibly grateful for your love, compassion, and support. It means so much to our family."
A previous update noted how Perez - who has Mayte, eight, Mia, 11, and Mario, 13 - cherished being reconnected with his brood.
The statement said: "Seeing his children in person has meant an enormous amount to Perez. There have definitely been a lot of emotions for everyone, but being able to spend that time together has been incredibly meaningful and healing.
"Communication with Perez is still limited, and we're not able to talk to him daily. While that's hard for us and for him, we understand that right now the priority isn't constant communication with family, but rather giving him the time and space to focus on his care and continue making progress.
"He's continuing to work with his care team on understanding what led to his mental health crisis, recognizing warning signs, learning better ways to cope, and working through everything that brought him to this point. (sic)"
The statement added: "We're grateful for the progress Perez has made so far, and especially grateful that he and his children have been able to spend some time together again."
