AI personal training -- not as impersonal as you think!
Personal trainers can cost $25 to $100-plus an hour, according to the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). That cost can make it difficult for you to access the benefits that come from a commitment to guided, personalized workouts, such as injury prevention, long-term development of strength, balance, and fun, fun, fun.
Enter more affordable AI training programs. They're popping up all over, including at my site, with me as a contributor at 4YOUngevity.com. But with all the controversy around AI in general, a lot of you may be skeptical. Well, a new investigation into the effectiveness of AI training sessions reveals they are equal to -- and sometimes more effective than -- training sessions with a human.
A 2026 study in the Journal of Sports Science & Medicine had personal trainers submit their clients' most frequently asked questions and their answers. The same questions were asked of ChatGPT, and then both were evaluated by 18 personal trainers and nine topic experts, who rated them on scientific correctness, actionability, and comprehensibility. ChatGPT outperformed personal trainers in answering six of nine exercise training-related questions.
There was also a 2025 case study in BMC Public Health that found that ChatGPT 4.0-generated training programs were "as effective, safe, and comprehensive as those created by human coaches" and could provide personalized advice.
Tip: If you need human interaction to strengthen your will to continue strength training, enlist a workout buddy. Together you can explore the effective and personalized routines that can be delivered through AI -- especially at 4YOUngevity.com and MyWellSteps.ai.
