US Rep. Jared Moskowitz announces where he'll seek reelection in redrawn Florida

MIAMI — Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz announced Thursday that he will run for Florida’s newly redrawn 25th Congressional District, setting the stage for one of the few competitive congressional races in Florida this November.

The district stretches from Miami Beach north to Delray Beach after changes approved under Gov. Ron DeSantis’ redistricting map.

The district Moskowitz was elected to lead in 2024 was redrawn under the new map, which reduced the number of Florida congressional districts won by Democrat Kamala Harris in the last presidential election to four. Florida’s U.S. House delegation currently includes eight Democrats.

The Cook Political Report rates the district as a toss-up. Voter registration in the district reports 32.9% are Republicans and 31.2% are Democrats, while 35.9% are independent.

The Broward County native is campaigning on a platform of restoring normalcy to American politics and pushing back against the growing rise of political extremism.

Notably, about 25% of voters in the newly drawn 25th Congressional District are Jewish, and Moskowitz has made combating antisemitism a key part of his campaign platform.

“I am only here because my grandparents escaped Europe in WWII,” he said in a statement announcing his campaign. “Because of good people who stood up to evil, my family was able to come to America and build a life in South Florida. So, when I see people in my own party talking about concentration camps or deporting Jews, I am going to be an immovable object to that movement.”

Moskowitz began his political career as a Parkland city commissioner before serving in the Florida House of Representatives. The two-term incumbent built a reputation for bipartisan collaboration and helped lead the legislative response following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

He later served as director of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management under DeSantis, overseeing the state’s response to hurricanes, the COVID-19 pandemic and major disaster recovery efforts before being appointed to the Broward County Commission.

Moskowitz also said his campaign will focus on easing financial pressures on working families.

“The American people are struggling to afford a regular way of life,” he said in a statement, “We must work together to bring back the American dream for the middle class in America. I have never hesitated to work with anyone across the aisle if I think it’ll improve the lives of my constituents.”
