Trump congratulates Mayor Zohran Mamdani on boosting 'Communists' to NYC primary wins
Published in Political News
President Donald Trump on Wednesday congratulated Mayor Zohran Mamdani on boosting three “Communist” allies to surprisingly decisive wins in contentious NYC Democratic congressional primaries.
Without letting on if he was joking, Trump said Mamdani deserves gushing positive news coverage for helping his favored candidates pull off a clean sweep of three wins in deep-blue districts in parts of the five boroughs where he is extremely popular.
“Mayor Mamdani pulled through 3 solid Communists, and has received loud and universal applause from the Fake News Media,” Trump wrote on his social media site. “Congratulations Mr. Mayor!”
Trump complained that the media often ignores his success at similarly elevating MAGA candidates in Republican primaries.
“I went 16-0 last night, helping to elect wonderful American Patriots, and the Media doesn’t say a word,” he wrote, referring to GOP endorsements in South Carolina, Maryland and upstate New York. “Over the last two years, my endorsement has netted 259 Primary WINS, and almost no losses, with Zero media attention!!!”
Regardless of whether Trump was serious about hailing the Mamdani-inspired wins, the post shows the Queens-born commander-in-chief closely monitors NYC local politics.
He took note that Mamdani-backed candidates Brad Lander, Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier are all nearly certain to go to Congress after soundly defeating more establishment picks in three very deep-blue NYC districts.
Instead of using Mamdani as a foil for Republicans, Trump welcomed the self-proclaimed democratic socialist to the White House and says he hopes they can work together for the good of their shared hometown.
Despite their obvious political differences, insiders say Trump also knows a rising political star in the making when he sees one and would prefer not to pick unnecessary fights with the charismatic young mayor for now.
Trump also danced on the political graves of longtime nemeses Rep. Dan Goldman and conservative lawyer George Conway, both of whom lost badly in the congressional primaries.
Trump claimed he felt sorry for “slimeball” Goldman after the incumbent lost in a landslide to Lander while he mocked Conway for his divorce from Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway after he fell to Micah Lasher in NY-12.
“Have a nice life, George!” Trump posted.
Trump suggested Goldman and Conway lost due to their criticism of him, but they actually lost to more progressive candidates who vowed to take a tougher stance against the White House.
