Abdul El-Sayed, Mike Rogers agree to second debate this fall

DETROIT — Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers have agreed to a second debate in their race to be Michigan's next U.S. Senator.
Both contenders in the key election plan to participate in an Oct. 21 debate, hosted by Detroit's WXYZ-TV and broadcast statewide. They previously agreed to an Oct. 8 debate hosted by Grand Rapids' WOOD-TV.
The news of the WXYZ event as came as WJBK has been trying to organize its own Senate debate for Sept. 15. El-Sayed has agreed to show up for the Sept. 15 debate, but Rogers hasn't.
"While one debate has been booked in Grand Rapids, shouldn’t they do one in Metro Detroit?" Fox 2's Roop Raj wrote on X last month. "We believe it’s important."
El-Sayed, a former Wayne County health official, previously called for five total debates this fall with Rogers, a former U.S. House member from White Lake Township. The election will take place Nov. 3.
Rogers and El-Sayed are competing to replace departing U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, who declined to seek another six-year term.
Veteran journalist Chuck Stokes will moderate the Oct. 21 debate.
