As Travelers Championship arrives, so does an up-and-down weather forecast

CROMWELL, Conn. — Volatility will be the word of the week for weather at the Travelers Championship, where hundreds of thousands usually come through the TPC River Highlands to watch the world’s best golfers.
The cold, rainier weather of the last few days, more typical of March than June, continued into Tuesday, but temperatures are expected to rise as the week goes on.
Cloudy conditions, temps in the 60s, prevailed as golfers arrived and took their practice rounds, heavy rains passing through in midafternoon as the temperature touched 70.
On Wednesday, for the annual celebrity pro-am, the weather will warm up, nearing 80, according to AccuWeather.com, with high humidity and a chance a thunderstorm.
With the start of play Thursday, hot, sticky conditions will begin, and that means the chance of a late-day thunderstorm will be possible each day. It’s expected to reach 92 degrees during the first round, and 86 during the second round on Friday.
Over the weekend, it’s expected to top 90 both Saturday and Sunday, with breaks of clouds and sun. If rain or a playoff pushed things into Monday, it could really get steamy, with a full-blown heat wave, temps nearing 100 degrees, coming early next week.
