MIAMI — A 64-year-old man was struck by a boat propeller while diving in the Bahamas on Thursday, May 7, 2026, and died while being transported to Miami for treatment, police say.
A 64-year-old man died on the way to Miami after he was seriously injured by a boat propeller while diving in the Bahamas on Thursday, police say.
The man, who has not been named, was diving about 17 miles from Bimini shortly after 3 p.m. when he became entangled in the prop of a 61-foot, sport-fishing boat called the Great Lakes, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said.
The police notified the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the U.S. Coast Guard about the incident. Police and military members went to the boat and found six men, including the injured man, on board.
The boat’s captain, police and the Coast Guard determined he should be immediately taken to Miami aboard the Great Lakes to receive urgent medical treatment, police said in a press release.
The man died along the approximately 38-mile journey to Miami, according to police.
