Pop star Hilary Duff 'didn't know she would make another album'

Hilary Duff's new music represents her "complicated and mature" personality.
The 38-year-old pop star released Luck... or Something, her first album in 11 years, in February, and Hilary has now explained why she chose to return to the music business.
The blonde beauty - who had focused on her acting career over the last decade - told Sports Illustrated: "People asked me for years when I'd make another album and I always skirted around that question. The truth is I didn't really know if I ever would because I had never gotten to make an album the way I wanted to."
Hilary didn't have a label, a manager or even a budget when she returned to making music. However, she really enjoyed the experience of making Luck... or Something.
The pop singer - who has starred in successful shows such as Younger and How I Met Your Father - said: "I had my husband as producer and I made the music I wanted to make.
"It represents who I am now, which is complicated and mature, but dressed in sequins."
Hilary found the creative process behind the album to be therapeutic.
She said: "This entire experience has felt like therapy."
Hilary previously admitted that she found her return to the music industry to be "scary".
The singer confessed to hesitating before she made her return to the music business.
Hilary told Rolling Stone: "Everyone has a way to tell you how they feel about what you make, and that felt scary. I was like, 'Why would I subject myself to this? We have a happy life and amazing kids.' But obviously, I miss performing, and I desperately miss having that person be in the forefront."
Hilary also revealed how her husband, Matthew Koma, influenced her music.
She said: "He was like, 'We just have to make what we think is cool, what you want to listen to in your car.' He has a way of boiling everything down and making it super digestible for me.
"So that was the approach of the record. What keeps me up at night? What are my insecurities? The themes are what 10 years has brought on. It was super healing to make something that felt exactly like me, and where I am right now … it was really important to me to not make a record that was like, 'I'm a mom and I pick up my kids at school and pack lunches every day and it's so hard.'"
