NEW YORK — Melissa Gilbert is leaving her New York City apartment while her embattled actor husband, Timothy Busfield, defends himself against sexual misconduct charges involving minors.

“So long perfect little one bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side. The last eight years here have been so special,” she posted on Instagram Tuesday.

Busfield was charged with four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child under the age of 13 in February. He maintains his innocence. Gilbert continues to support her husband of 13 years as he prepares to be tried in New Mexico.

Gilbert, 62, remembered her good times in New York as she prepared to flee the city.

“So many theaters and soundstages,” she wrote on Instagram. “So many wonderful dinners with friends and nights out on the town.”

Gilbert said she’ll miss strolling about her Upper Manhattan neighborhood, riding the subway and meeting people on the street. She also got sentimental about local businesses, including her favorite bodega and newsstand.

“And a very fond ‘farewell and see you soon’ to our favorite city in the world,” Gilbert wrote while making clear she and Busfield, 69, plan to return once his legal issues have been resolved.

“I promise we will be back it’s just that right now…..well….you know,” she concluded. “Excited to live in our wonderful home upstate full time for a good long while.”

Realtor.com reported in 2022 that Gilbert and Busfield share a modest property in the Catskills. She calls that home “The Cabbage,” which combines the words “cabin” and “cottage.”

Photos she posted online Tuesday show Gilbert looking exhausted while surrounded by moving boxes.
