Kat Dennings "completely forgot" about being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when fans waved at her in Avengers Campus at Disneyland.

The actress, 40, does not think about her roles during downtime, so she assumed the excitement from people as she, her husband, musician Andrew W.K., 47, and their stepchildren roamed the land at Disney's California Adventure, Anaheim, was because of the park's joyous atmosphere.

But Dennings soon remembered the reaction from parkgoers was because she played Darcy Lewis in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, WandaVision, and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Appearing on the June 29 episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, she shared: "When I'm not working, I don't think about it. I'm really just living and not thinking about it.

"And we were going through Avengers Campus, which is a part of Disneyland. And everyone was waving at me, and I was like, 'Everyone is so friendly. 'Everyone is in the best mood because it's the happiest place on Earth.'"

Dennings - who waved back - added: "Then my husband was like, 'Are you OK?' And I was like, 'Oh my god, I'm in these movies! I forgot!'

"I completely forgot that I was like part of the Marvel universe and that people were waving at me."

Avengers Campus features roaming superheroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Black Widow.

During her family's trip, Dennings donned a shirt, glasses and a hat - a similar look to Darcy - and she feared that some people in the land with her would "think I'm like pretend Darcy Lewis".

She added: "I was like, 'I look just like Darcy Lewis.' It was so stupid. I'm so dumb."

Dennings is not the only star to forget about being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Gwyneth Paltrow, 53, played Pepper Potts in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

However, the Oscar-winner struggles to remember which films in the franchise she has been in because there are so many.

In October 2019, Paltrow told Elle magazine: "It is confusing because there are so many Marvel films, and to be honest, I haven't seen very many of them."

The star even forgets the actors she has appeared in Marvel movies with, including 30-year-old Tom Holland.

In December 2025, Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr., 61, jokingly teased that his long-time pal is "impossibly intelligent, yet forever confused by the basic tenets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its inhabitants".

He poked fun at Gwyneth's spotty memory during The Hollywood Reporter's 2025 Women in Entertainment breakfast gala, where Downey Jr. honoured Paltrow as she received the 20th annual Sherry Lansing Leadership Award.

He recalled to the audience when she did not recognise Holland, and asked: "Who's that?"

Downey Jr. told her: "That's Spider-Man. He said his name was Peter. His character's name is Peter. He's Tom Holland. You've done four movies with him."
