NEW YORK — Aaron Tveit is returning to “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” before it ends its run at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre next month.

The Tony Award Winner will take the stage as leading man Christian for 15 performances between Aug. 18 through Aug. 29, with Christian Douglas — the performer currently playing the starring role — set to return on Aug. 30 for the final performance. It will mark Tveit’s third time back at the Moulin Rouge since he helped launch the original production back in 2019

Following his exit in May 2022, Tveit returned for a pair of limited three-month runs — one kicked off in January 2023 and another ran starting in July 2024.

Most recently, Tveit starred on Broadway as Freddie Trumper in “Chess” alongside Lea Michele’s Florence Vassy and Nicholas Christopher’s Anatoly Sergievsky. Despite some serious buzz, Tveit failed to nab a Tony nomination for his work on the production.

Back in 2021, though, he took home the trophy for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for originating the role of Christian in “Moulin Rouge,” based on the 2001 Baz Luhrmann movie of the same name. He also received an Outer Critics Circle Award.

The movie combined luxury, burlesque and a jukebox musical style, blending popular hits like “Lady Marmalade”, the Elton John ballad “Your Song,” and the dramatic “El Tango de Roxanne.” The musical takes an updated approach, swapping out some songs in favor of newer hits, like Pink’s “Raise Your Glass,” Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

In addition to best actor, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” took home 10 Tony Awards, including best musical.
