K-pop influencer Mina Chan reportedly died by suicide on TikTok livestream

Mina Chan, a prominent K-pop influencer with more than 80,000 followers, apparently died by suicide during a TikTok livestream, according to reports.

Chan, a superfan of the K-pop group ENHYPEN, was recording inside her home in South Korea on Aug. 5 when her behavior began to disturb some of her viewers, The Korean Herald reported. Several social media users reached out to law enforcement, begging them to help the social media star.

Officers ultimately to responded to the residence in Hangangno-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul after receiving a call from one of Chan’s acquaintances, authorities told the Herald. When they arrived on the scene around 5:33 a.m., they found the influencer already dead.

Chan’s sister confirmed her death in a social media post the following day.

“My beloved older sister, who was always kind and warm to everyone she met, has passed away,” the message read, per WION. “I kindly ask that you keep my sister in your thoughts and prayers.”

 

She was 26 years old. Her death is under investigation and the live stream has since been pulled from TikTok.

In the days leading up to her death, Chan had been facing criticism over her actions at a ENHYPEN concert back in July, WION reported. She tried to get band member Sunoo to pass flowers to fellow member Ni-ki — who is from Japan like Chan — and some fans accused her of trying to call attention to herself.

She later posted an apology on X.

“I feel like my actions ended up taking advantage of Sunoo’s kindness,” she wrote, per WION. “I’m truly sorry. I feel so apologetic toward Sunoo and all the Sunoo fans. By attending ENHYPEN’s fan signs multiple times, I had deluded myself into thinking I was closer to the members than I actually was.”
